ABOUT Pallavi
My name is Pallavi Pallerla and this is my very first year as an Independent Study Mentorship student. For many years, I have been trying to decide what career field I want to pursue and when the opportunity to join ISM came my way, I took it. This year, for my topic, I chose to study the field of Chemical Engineering. I became interested in chemical engineering because we both have a similar goal: pursue change for the better through the use of science. I discovered that I have a great passion for biology and chemistry from the courses I took throughout high school. This passion directed me to discover chemical engineering. When I first heard about chemical engineering, I was actually quite confused on what this field was about. I initially thought it was a fancy way to say formulating new chemicals, but after research, I learned that chemical engineering an uncommon field where scientists, who are known as universal engineers, experiment with an issue to find the most cost-efficient and ecologically friendly solution. To me, the career sounds extremely exciting because it involves solving challenging puzzles but presenting the final transforming result like a magician, in a sense. I want to pursue this field as a study topic because it evokes my passion and I have so many unanswered questions about this subject.
MISSION STATEMENT
Through the Independent Study and Mentorship Program, I strive to broaden my confidence and skill in the professional world so I can obtain knowledge as I explore in the field of chemical engineering. My goals consist of figuring out who I am as a person and what I can do for my community. I plan on putting forth my best effort and determination to pursue my passion, and I hope that one day, with all my experience this opportunity will give me, I will help better the environment by improving the water pollution issue to help those in developing nations so everyone has access to a clean water supply.
